My crohn's is in remission finally after 20 some years, but I am now suffering with IBS mainly constipation occasionally D (usually during my monthly cycle) so IBS is very real for sure but I do agree that I think sloppy and lack of proper testing does make it much more easier for docs to over-dx patients with IBS when they have tummy issues.
Remission doesn't mean that we still don't have some symptoms. So I would be weary even then to call it IBS, especially knowing that I have Crohn's. Even in remission I don't think we are ever 100% normal.
I think IBS is real, but very overly diagnosed. I also think it can mean things like food intolerance/allergy and again something they can just put a lazy sticker on. I went undiagnosed for 10 years because it was just "IBS". I tend to wonder if my disease would have been better controlled if found earlier and not just dismissed. I think this is all too common of a problem for us.
