Brand new to the Chrohn's board. Sorry for TMI but have a feeling that is the nature of this board. My husband has never had normal elimination. He has several bowel movements a day and usually soft/diarrhea. For almost six weeks he is has non-top diarrhea about 8-10x a day. He has a colonoscopy scheduled for next week (earliest appt - love NYC doctors!). Needless to say I'm getting worried. If anyone has anything to offer it is much appreciated. He has never had blood in his stool. Thanks everyone.

Diarreah could be caused by many things specially viruses and bacteria. It will point more to Crohns if you have a multitude of other symptoms:

Extreme bloating
Pain
Malabsorption - weight loss
Lots of gas - belching and farting

After tests are done:
Strictures
Fistulas
Abcesses

For now have him slow the diarreah by taking 2-4 Imodiums a day. Start taking metamucil to firm up the stool.

Thank you. He has a stool test that has ruled out virus/parasites. He still has appetite, has a lot of gas. Can't really tell about bloating, perhaps. He has been taking immodium every day for six weeks now. Never thought of metamucil because I thought that was to help you go. Thanks so much for responding.

The metamucil would aid with D or C, it helps by bulking stool up (when you suffer with D) and it helps move stool through (when dealing with C) hopefully his scope will tell a clear story of what's going on. Besides IBD and IBS there are many other conditions of the bowel that could be happening.

If Imodium did not work try Lomotil (prescription) which is much stronger

Thank you all. You have helped a lot. His scope is next week so I'll breathe a lot easier when it's over. I'll keep you posted. Feel good!
