C-Diff AND probiotics.. Need advice on a schedule for them!

I will be starting vancomycin 250 4x per day for 14 days for c-diff.. Right now I am taking a liquid 20 bil probiotic....
-should I be taking a stronger probiotics?
-can I take TOO strong of a probiotic?
-brand recommendations?
-should I take more than the suggested dose?
-how on earth do you take the vanco every 6 hours and take probiotic 2 hours away from vanco?
Any other suggestions welcome and appreciated.

I am not sure about the probiotic you are on; I personally like VSL #3 and Florastor. I think a probiotic would be too strong only if it was making your stomach upset. I would suggest taking at least 4 Florastor pills per day, spread out throughout the day. Take one dose of probiotics about one to two hours after taking the probiotic. Here is a suggested schedule, you can change it depending on your sleep habits (and I actually do vanco more like every 5 hours so I can sleep a little better at night):
5a: Vanco
7a: probiotic
10a: vanco
12p: probiotic
3p: vanco
5p: probiotic
8p: vanco
10p: probiotic (or even 9p if you want to go to bed earlier).

Florastor is a probiotic that is yeast based rather than bacterial based and has been shown to be preventative for c.diff. You don't have to time when to take it like bacterial based probiotics and I found it to be very helpful. You can go to their website and read about it and get a coupon for it. @gumby - I didn't know that it was yeast based. I didn't even know that was a thing! So does that mean if I get frequent yeast infections, I should NOT use Florastor to help control them?

No. It is absorbed through the intestinal tract and is not supposed to affect your genital/urinary system, although with your fistula, it is a good question. Here's what info I could find:

4 Florastor per day. I had c-diff that would not resolve until I got great advice from here about taking 4 per day. I did two in the morning and two in the evening, two hours before or after the Vancomycin. There is a study about this online about saccromycees boulardii and c-diff. They usedthe brand Florastor so I stuck to that . You can buy it at Walgreens or CVS.

Ok great thanks everyone! I will buy the florastor today. So can I take the florastor AND my other liquid probiotic? If so,,at the same time?
Scifigal2k, thanks for the sample schedule. I will have to modify it quite a bit. I usually wake up at 8:00 and go to sleep around 11:30. Unfortunately when I wake up in the middle of the night I can't always get back to sleep. So, do you think it'd be ok to take it like this?? Or does it have to be spaced out equally even overnight?

Vanco 8:30am
Probiotic 10:30am
Vanco 1:30pm
Probiotic 3:30pm
Vanco 6:30pm
Probiotic 8:30pm
Vanco 11:30pm

That would leave 9.5 hour gap between 11:30pm and 8:30am doses. Is that too long?

I *think* that should be okay. Might want to double check with your doctor, though. Yes, you can take your liquid probiotic and florastor together (as long as the liquid probiotic isn't the same kind as florastor just with a diffferent name).
