Had an allergic reaction to humira. Rash all over my body, fever, nausea, vomiting, hospitalized. Now I'm back to square one. One doctor gave me a script for pentasa, I filled it but haven't started it yet. I'm too scared. I do not do well with oral antibiotics or meds like pentasa, 6mp, imuran, etc. They mentioned trying another iv med or shot like humira. Please advise what you would do, I'm really starting to lose faith. I've had crohns disease since the age of 13 and now am 44. I'm so tired. I think if it wasn't for my first baby grandson being born, I would have given up a long time ago. I know i sound depressed but with all of this how can you not? Diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney stones, gallbladder gone, appendix gone, hysterectomy, menopause, tmj surgery on jaw, scoliosis, osteoporosis, crohns obstruction and surgery, pancreatitis sepsis twice, Mersa in nose, 2 strokes, coma after tmj surgery, influenza Dec and Jan 2014 2015, put in icu 107 fever, life support, see my point? Help?

Everyone reacts differently to different meds, but for me Pentasa was a babe in the woods in comparison to the heavy drugs used for crohn's these days. Another name for it is 5 aminosalicylic acid, which I believe is a derivative of aspirin. I was on it for many years, but was also on prednisone, so don't know how much it helped? Helps some people. I tolerated it okay and normally I am very sensitive to drugs. If you have any allergies to aspirin you should mention it to your doctor.

Doesn't aspirin normally upset people's stomachs? And also don't they tell people with crohns disease to stay away from aspirin? I have had crohns disease all these years and shame on them for still making it so confusing for even the people who have had it forever. I don't know what to do.

5-ASAs are chemically very similar to aspirin, but don't have the same deleterious effects on the stomach. I'm not a biochemist, so I can't explain why.

I don't know how severe your Crohn's is, but if you were on Humira I'm going to guess that it's bad enough that taking Pentasa would be an utter waste of time for you. The 5-ASAs are quite effective at treating UC, but virtually useless for Crohn's disease (that doesn't stop doctors from prescribing them for Crohn's anyway).

I'm wondering if Entyvio would cause you less grief? :-/ Please ask about it. I can't promise it won't have any side-effects, but as it's gut-specific (targets the gut only) you are much less likely to have the sort of allergic reaction to it that you did to Humira.

Not sure what else to say other than I feel your pain. I hope you can try Entyvio and I hope it helps.

You mean Entyvio? :-/ It's given in IV form, like Remicade.

Just in case your doctor doesn't know what Entyvio is, he might know it better by its generic name of vedolizumab. If you're in the US, that probably won't be an issue, but just in case...

Lol I can't believe I didn't catch that. Entry violence. Lol Omg anyway I saw the gi today he wants to try cimzia. Any thoughts? I'm nervous cause he said if you got a rash from the humira you might get one from this too.. if it doesn't work out then entivia will be next on board.
