Well, you have given me a lot to think about. I have had two colonoscopy procedures and both showed no problem.
My last MRI showed no collection, just a single fistula tract about four centimetres in length that passes through both inner and outer sphincters making my Fistula the transphincteral type but the surgeon suggested that because the Seton is not tight anymore and is getting longer this means a lot of healing has taken place. This is why he plans to see me for an EUA and possible Laying open if appropriate but I could wake up with another Seton.
I am both impressed and surprised when I read that some people have no problems with a Seton, to me it is always an area that is sore or painful. I have never had a full nights sleep since its insertion.
As for asking my surgeon all my questions, all that I get is a shrug of the shoulders and the statement that all fistula sufferers have tailor made surgery depending on their needs, he says the blood in stools is normal and the burning soreness should ease (it never has yet) with time, he says do not use creams in case it blocks the Seton, just use warm water to wash the area and avoid soaps and showers gells etc with perfumes in.
I do have one real worry, how do I keep the area clean should I have the Laying open option, surely my faeces will infect and re-infect the area with every BM.
As always any advice is most welcome.
