It's been a bit since your original post but I just discovered and joined this site. Currently I suffer from multiple auto-immune diseases (Crohns, Lupus, Sjögren's) with some diagnosis of IBD/IBS, fibromyalgia and Raynauds. I also have (still) adhesions and scar tissue that cause lots of problems. I had peritonitis from a ruptured appendix when I was 14. Three months in the hospital/ICU, multiple surgeries, bowel resections, infections, drainage tubes, NG tubes, feeding tubes and more. Finally, I was allowed to go home. With a colostomy. It was reversed a year later, but the damage to my GI and reproductive systems from the illness was massive. I developed ovarian cysts and fibroid tumors, suffering for years. Eventually my ob-gyn said it was time to make a decision about my quality of life. Continue to suffer--or have a complete hysterectomy. Knowing my history (and even though he was head of ob-gyn surgery at his hospital) he said there was no way he could feel comfortable doing the surgery. Instead, he sent me to an ob-gyn cancer doctor/surgeon. My ob-gyn called him personally to explain my situation and request a consult. It's been awhile but I seem to remember that this specialty is used to dealing with complicated surgeries and adhesions. Thank goodness I went there and they did the surgery. It wasn't easy and any surgery is still a major risk for me, but I can only imagine the increased complications, pain and problems I would have now without having had that surgery. Just one more note (sorry this is so long-I just really relate and want to share my experience). The surgeon said that it was so bad when they opened me up it looked like there had been a train wreck in my belly--eveything was twisted and fused together. The fibroids had gone through my uterus and fused with some bowel. It was so hard to separate everything they nicked the bowel and I ended up with another bowel resection--but successful hysterectomy. Keep looking until you find the right doctor, answers and help. You're not alone and there is hope!
