Remicaid and imuran - dual treatment

I was dx w crohns when I was 19 and now am 33. I have tried humaria and had a side effect of htn so I then went off treatment (had two babies :) then started cimzia. Last week I found out cimzia isn't working for me - I was admitted with a SBO. Thankfully with bowel rest it resolved itself. I met w my GI today (whom I trust and think is great). He suggested starting remicaid infusions and imuran. The reason for the dual treatment is because I have been on a biological before and they don't want me to build up antibodies. Has anyone had to do this or do it? I've always been anxious for any 'drug therapy' and thus just is scary to me.

I schd for a colonoscopy on the 31 to see if I have a structure or if the SBO was cause just by inflimation.

I have been on Imuran for 3 years now and Remicade has been added recently. My GI is following this dual therapy as you mentioned so that my body doesn't build up antibodies. As notsosicklygirl mentioned, Imuran takes a long time until it starts to be effective. You'll take from 3-6 months for Imuran to start working. I'm just wondering what are you going to covered with until both Remicade and Imuran start working?

It's pretty common with CD as well to take both. Remicade varies on how quickly it kicks in, just depending on the person. Some feel great after one dose, and others don't feel better until after all 3 loading doses. Imuran (on its own, at least) takes about 3 months to be fully effective, but that shouldn't matter as much since you have the Remi with it, too.
