Remicade

Good Morning, I have just joined this form and interested in learning from other's experiences. My husband is 42 years old and was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease when he was 17 years old. He was able to handle flare ups with Salofalk for some time until last year when he got really sick and lost almost 40 pounds in less then 2 months and experiencing a lot of mouth ulcers and the trips to the bathroom are endless and he has been losing so much sleep over the last year and a half. He has been taking prednisone which has helped but needs to get off of it because of the side effects it is causing him. His GI has started him on Remicade and he has had his first treatment almost 2 weeks ago. The last 5 days he has been beyond exhausted and his bones have been aching. He is scheduled for his next iv in 2 days.

Hi, I have just finished the loading doses and my next infusion is due end of April. I remember when I took the first dose that I had severe muscle aches, nausea, dizziness and 10+bms. I started to feel better by day 6. Things were a bit better after the second dose. However, dizziness persisted till day 6 also. After the third dose, things changed completely. Immediately after taking the infusion, I didn't feel any side effects. The days after I was fine and didn't have either muscle aches or dizziness. I think it the side effects get better by time.

I have been on Remicade for over 4 years now, and I have very few side effects from it. I know that some of them sound scary, but the scary, long-lasting ones aren't all that common. If he is having some joint pain, etc. from it, there is a small possibility that he is developing antibodies to it. It might be worth mentioning to his GI to see if they want to add Imuran or something to help prevent antibodies.
