I am publishing my protocol that has kept me healthy for five years.
I started researching after second resection (which I decided never to have again).
My GI doc at the time recommended remicade - I said no thank you.
Current age early 60's - diagnosed age 16. I have taken all CD meds except
biologicals (remicade etc) and heavy things like 6mp
Two resections - descending colon and terminal ileum.
I'm a 160 pound male 6'0" for what it's worth.
Philosophy:
This is not an easy protocol to follow but may be easier than SCD
My philosophy is to do what is cheap and (and mostly) easy.
I also look for at least valid study or promising research on everything I take.
People hyping stuff without valid research are specifically avoided.
Food:
gluten free
lots of cooked veggies - fewer raw
as much fiber as tolerated - lots of (10 min cook variety) oatmeal with nuts for breakfast
other than that eat a sensible diet - no need to avoid all sugars
Probiotics:
sacromyces boulardi (whole foods)
powerdopholis (whole foods - generic lactobacillus maybe 10 species)
Clostridium Butyricum - I had to get this from Japan but it was cheap. I don't know if this is still viable after being shipped in non-refrigerated state
Vitamins and supplements:
Vitamin D3 - 4000 units a day
Vitamin B group
Sodium Butyrate - 600mg BodyBio
wheatgrass juice powder - I'm buying in 1lb bags - about $50 a bag
1 tsp a day
Prescription
cholestyramine powder - 1/2 tsp a day - this is for bile induced diarrhea from terminal ileal resection. New research has shown that it represses C-diff bacteria however. It's somewhat unpleasant to take but I mix it with the wheatgrass juice. cholestyramine has also been shown to help probiotics make it through the stomach acid environment unscathed, so I take it with probiotics, once a day (although I began at twice a day).
Other
I wear suspenders - although I dislike the retro fashion statement it makes a big difference to not have belt squeezing my gut all the time.
