So I'm pretty sure I'm living a nightmare. I am supposed to get discharged today after starting all of these meds and woke up with white patches all over the back of my mouth and I feel it when I swallow in my throat! The nurse saw it and confirmed it looked concerning so now I have to wait for the doctors:(. What has me a bit nervous is that the last few days I've had some discomfort when I swollow but figured that was from having solids I was noticing it more because I had gotten used to liquid diet. I've had a bit of catching in my chest when I take a deep breath that I have been brushing off nothing major but kinda freaking out right now since i had never been on iv steroids so long plus the remicade and 6mp are new. Any experience with this? And that this isn't going to turn into something crazy o_o

Thrush in your throat is not a big deal at all. It comes from antibiotics and/or steroids. I've had it a couple of times. They'll give you some anti-fungals and you'll be good to go. It's fairly common. It hurt like crazy, but it's really not anything to worry about. I doubt they'd keep you in the hospital for longer than to write a script for it.

I get Thrush all the time from my antibiotics, Fluconazole usually takes care of it in a few days. You probably have it from the steroids. Once you get off of the steroids then your body will handle the Thrush on its own.

The probiotic Florastor is usually pretty good about preventing/treating Thrush, the next time you go on Steroids or antibiotics then you might want to add Florastor to your routine.

Good idea, I usually take florastor but haven't been while I've been in the hospital. They are keeping me one more night to make sure it doesn't bother my swallowing. So far so good.

I had terrible thrush when I was taking some of those medicines and the first time they didn't give me anything to treat it - one nurse even told me "try not to think about it." UGH! The next time they have me a prescription mouth rinse/gargle and that took care of it. I also had aphthous ulcers in my throat during a particularly bad flare (before I was diagnosed with Crohn's) and no one knew what they were. I have found myself that it's best for me to keep asking questions and there's usually a medicine for everything (even if it's something holistic or over the counter or straight up narcotics), having Crohn's is suffering enough.

Oh dear, wednesday77, "try not to think about it" is the last thing you need to hear! I'm doing the swish and swallow and there are no signs of it now, though my throat is now a bit sore which is new. I've had those ulcers too, they are so insanity painful. Last time I ended up using caraphate until the other meds kicked in. Definitely asking questions and staying on top of each thing is the only way to deal with this disease and all the "fun friends it brings to the party"

It never ceases to amaze me how some of the medical professionals treat us patients with UC and Crohn's. The only thing I can chalk it up to is sheer ignorance of the diseases. I had thrush several times before my operation in 2010. Not sure if it is caused by antibiotics and or prednisone. The doctor prescribed a lozenge type of medication which name escapes me now. Not the best tasting but it sure did the trick. Good luck to you, I know it is very uncomfortable dealing with it.
