I agree with @Brelaxed. Not saying your situation is the same as mine but I had a number of years in the beginning where I had been convinced by people around me that stress was triggering my issues and my disease could be controlled by managing that so I would take a short course of prednisone to stop the debilitating symptoms (sometimes antibiotics too) and then I was just on a either lialda or asacol which is basically as good as nothing. I was usually able to get by fine for about
a year before needing prednisone again but because of that I ended up with a fistula and a whole host of problems and damage that was going on silently not to mention several hospitalizations. I eventually got the picture that it wasn't my fault that I was sick because I wasn't able to handle stress and that really the disease itself was part of what was making me so stressed, got on big meds and got the disease under control. So even though I had periods of being med free and symptom free it always ended in a bad flare.
