Depends.
Taking it once to fall asleep isn't likely to cause harm but need to see why you can't sleep.
Is it anxiety? Pain? Inflammation?...
You can become tolerant to this rather quickly. Take the smallest dose you think you will need to fall asleep if you do take it.
If you have an important meeting or somewhere to be tomorrow you might wait, some people can take days to get rid of the Benadryl drowsiness
If allergies are preventing you from sleeping, you can try something non-drowsy
Good luck

Well, I take it every night. Not really to sleep but it helps with my allergies. I have terrible allergies, I also have a steroid spray I use, plus netti pot and it's still bad.
Are you having insomnia due to steroids? Steroids really messed me up badly with my sleep. I'm on Ambien for that. Would love to get off of it at some point (at this point I'd need weaning). My doctor thinks even after weaning I'll have issues with insomnia since it's been a problem for me for so long, even before the ambien.
