When you eat, the digestive tract prepares itself for the incoming food by increasing saliva production in the mouth and mucus production the rest of the way.
In many people, this spills over into the nose, throat, and sometimes even the lungs as well. I know people who get a runny nose every time they eat. I know people who sneeze some when they eat. Me, I get a runny nose every time I have a bowel movement.
