Sorry to hear of the diagnosis. Did they do upper and lower scopes with biopsies to confirm.
As stated Pentasa is not a good medication for Crohn's. Many now consider it totally ineffective. Are you seeing a GI? Your family Doctor cannot deal with IBD, and you need a good GI that you can have confidence in.
There's two schools of thought on treatment. You can opt for a top down approach, which would mean choosing the most sophistcated medication, or you can try to see if the disease can be controlled with a more moderate approach. An immunosuppressant like Imuran/6mp or Methotrexate might be enough for her
You might want to get further diagnostics done first. Perhaps and MRE would be a good choice, as it's the least invasive and safest.
