Hi,
Anyone pregnant and currently taking Stelara? Or who took it through their pregnancy? Originally, I was told there wasn't enough data, but now it looks like it's a Class B (which I believe Humira is as well). Waiting to talk to the doctor but figured I'd see others experiences. Thanks in advance!

I'd recommend posting this question on the Psoriasis board. It's been available for them far longer than for Crohn's, so you'd probably be more likely to get a response.

I haven't taken Stelara, so don't quote me on this, but I *think* that all of the biologics are considered pregnancy-safe. I know Remicade, Humira, and Entyvio are for sure. I believe they're actually category C, not B, but still considered okay. I've heard that MTX is the only one you HAVE to avoid for sure.

I took stelara during the first trimester of my last pregnancy (just 45 mg). I went on to deliver a healthy full term (but somewhat underweight) baby with no issues. Preg again and on a higher Crohn's dosage of 90. My gastro wants me to stay on it...but part of me wants to stop after the first tri again.

scorpio, would you mind explaining why you would want to stop after the first trimester? I don't know much about
Stelara. I know with a lot of meds (not necessarily Crohn's meds), they're only safe AFTER the first trimester because baby's body is mostly formed at that point. Is it because you want to avoid having Stelara in your baby's system?

My pregnancy was 2.5 years ago but I think the OB recommended it because after the first trimester it crossed the placenta. I was on azathioprine for my pregnancy, not on it anymore. I am now 6.5 weeks pregnant...haven't taken it yet in this pregnancy (i think i took it on the day i conceived). I just spoke to my gastro and he advocates staying on it, might talk to the OB because I am nervous. I did enter a mother to baby study on it when I was last pregnant, but it doesn't seem like the results from that are available yet.

I would go with what your GI says over your OB. Just because it crosses the placenta doesn't really mean anything. Almost everything crosses the placenta!

i know, but i wouldn't be able to forgive myself if my child had some defect that later I found out was associated with the Stelara....

My GI did a study on 6-MP and pregnancy; he said that some flares can be more harmful than most of the IBD meds. There are some meds are definitely off-limits. All the Mothers delivered healthy babies in his study.
The way that he made it sound to me is that the most important thing was staying out of a flare.
