Just completed one week 40mg of pred and about to taper over 8 weeks. Not feeling much relief yet and I was wondering how long until I might start to have a normal bowel movement? Is it possible that I will feel better even as I decrease the pred?

Really need more information. Have you been diagnosed with Crohn's? How long have you been having symptoms, and what symptoms? What diagnostics have you had done? Are you on any other meds?

Prednisone usually acts rather quickly. Depending on the above answers, you could find more relief coming, but as you taper, a transiton to a maintenance med is the norm.

Yes diagnosed about a year ago crohns in the ileum. symptoms nausea, diarrhea, bloating, pain. Been on azathriopine 100mg for 3 months as well but havent noticed any changes
Hoping there is still a chance for things to change over the next few weeks

When I first started pred, it took 11 days to kick in. I was worried then but read it could take up to 14 days until you start feeling any improvement.

Pred helped me literally overnight. I don't mean to sound a downer, but it doesn't sound like pred is going to be the med for you. I can't emphasise enough the long-term dangers of this drug. An 8-week course won't do any harm in all likelihood, but you don't want to stay on pred for any longer than that.

Enquire into biological meds (Remicade, Humira, etc.)
