Should I go to hospital or is this normal pain?

10 days post op from draining setons. 2 coming out of either butt cheek.
In agony since last night. Woke this morning with insane pain level. I stopped draining on Wed ....maybe the tiniest amount at night. Unsure if this is normal pain given I have 2 setons coming out of butt cheeks.

I've had 5 I & D's in last 8 months but his is horrible. I feel like screaming. Don't know if it's normal to stop draining so quickly or if that means I'm absccessing somewhere else.

I've had to postpone my hyperbaric until I'm able to travel and lay down.

If this is normal seton/surgical pain, how long can I expect this to last?

I've never had setons, so I have no idea if that's normal pain or not. I hope somebody with more experience with fistulas than me answers soon, UB, but if they don't I'd be inclined to go to hospital with that pain level.

So sorry you're going through all this :/

I had 3 draining setons placed last December. The first couple of days were uncomfortable but definitely not painful. I don't know if it's normal to stop draining that quickly. Mine are still draining and it's been over 3 months. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease one month ago. My colorectal surgeon advised once my medication is working, the areas will heal and they will remove setons. He has told me many times to call his office if I have pain as pain is not normal.
I would go the the doctor asap. Pain is not normal and if there is a problem it could cause permanent issues.

Thank you both. I'm surprised there aren't more people responding with setons.

Jen--I'm sorry you've been diagnosed. What an awful introduction to this disease!! I've actually been draining without setons for 6 months. It took this long for surgery so I've been abscessing, draining, abscessing etc all this time. I had a tiny bit of drainage yesterday but mainly I'd say I'm "damp." I'm not wearing pads etc. I do find that I'm itchy. Are you finding that? My pain has subsided a bit. My GI is trying to get a hold of my surgeon though to figure out what's going on. I find mornings are the worst. I was able to get out today for 10 min to take my dog out---otherwise I've been bedridden for 2 weeks.

NCOT-- thank you so much. I'm sorry to hear about shingles. that sucks. How are you feeling?
I did have a tad bit of happiness. There is a small convenience store near my moms that has begun importing Walkers Crisps!! Oh my. Complete heaven. Cheese and onion was my fave but I tried Roasted Chicken (I needed much coaxing) but holy smokes that was delicious!! The issue is that the single snack bag was $1.29!! I swear there was 12 chips per bag.

Hang in there!!! I am thinking of you. I have no experience with setons so I can't even begin to address that. I have read alot of experiences about them though and now I am thinking I want to leave the fistulas and stuff alone....just call me wimpy.

I laughed about your excitement over the chips. We have one store here that ships in these specialty chips...I have been known to call them every few days when they run out. They know that with my Crohns I am limited on my chips so they understand.....but when I run out and they run out.....not a pretty picture. (Hey I have become a hoarder about those chips. Mine are only 1.00 so I feel somewhat better.)

I hope you feel better and are able to get out and about soon.

Hi UB.

The shingles is rather sucking at the moment. Every time I think it's getting better, the pain comes back again with a vengeance :-/ The spots are still there as well; I don't think the pain will go until they go.

As for Walkers crisps, they are nice! Think I like ready salted best myself, but just about all the flavours are nice - I got a multipack of Worcester Sauce crisps a while back and enjoyed those a lot. I had to laugh at the 12 crisps comment: I swear bag sizes have got smaller over the years and now it does seem like you only get about 12 crisps per bag.

It's a shame import goods are so expensive. I'm partial to American cheetos but they're about £1.50 for a titchy bag.
