NCOT - I have a copy of the Capsule Endoscopy report that they sent me in the mail - so all good there (came in handy to have it in my purse when I ended up in the ER!). I will certainly request a copy of my biopsy results when they call next week.
They just uploaded my Colonoscopy report to my patient portal so I'm copying and pasting the text here for you guys (I know it's always nice to read the actual medical doc rather than my sloppy paraphrasing of it).
COLONOSCOPY REPORT:
The perianal and digital rectal examinations were normal.
Findings:
The terminal ileum appeared normal. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology.
The appendiceal orifice and ileocecal valve appeared normal.
A diffuse area of moderately congested, erythematous, friable (with contact bleeding), granular, inflamed, ulcerated and vascular-pattern-decreased mucosa was found in the entire colon. Biopsies were taken with a cold forceps for histology.
External and internal hemorrhoids were found. The hemorrhoids were small.
The exam was otherwise without abnormality.
Impression:
-The examined portion of the ileum was normal. Biopsied.
- The appendiceal orifice and ileocecal valve are normal.
- Congested, erythematous, friable (with contact bleeding), granular, inflamed, ulcerated and vascular pattern-decreased mucosa in the entire examined colon. Biopsied.
- External and internal hemorrhoids.
- The examination was otherwise normal.
Recommendation:
- If biopsies were taken during your procedure we usually receive the report of the biopsy result
within 5 working days. At that point we will send you notification, most likely by the patient portal
or by mail, but in certain cases by phone as appropriate. If you had biopsies taken, and have not
received notification after 2 weeks, please contact our office.
- Patient has a contact number available for emergencies. The signs and symptoms of potential
delayed complications were discussed with the patient. Return to normal activities tomorrow.
Written discharge instructions were provided to the patient.
- Repeat colonoscopy for surveillance based on pathology results.
- The patient will be observed post-procedure, until all discharge criteria are met.
- Use prednisone 40 mg PO once a day.
- Use Apriso 0.375 g 4 caps PO QAM. [My insurance won't cover this so I think they might sub in Lialda...]
- Use Rowasa enemas 1 per rectum daily
END OF REPORT
--
I will also note that while the report said the entire colon displayed the abnormal mucosa, the photo section features one squeaky clean photo labeled "Normal Cecum." I find this ironic because the cecum was by far the angriest, grossest image on my Capsule Endoscopy report. It's amazing what 3 weeks of prednisone can do!
