Did the consultant say
why he thought it wasn't Crohn's? Were biopsies taken during your last colonoscopy? Was, in fact, there any inflammation in your colon?
I think an MRI scan is a better choice than having another faecal calprotectin test. A normal FC result wouldn't tell you very much: just that your intestinal inflammation is gone, but not whether it had been Crohn's or an infection. Likewise a high FC result would tell you that intestinal inflammation is still present, but not whether it was Crohn's or an infection.
Continue to chase this up. I hope your consultant is right, but I'm not absolutely convinced he is.
PS: I've never heard of an infection "turning" into Crohn's. Wouldn't worry about
that. You have to have a genetic pr
opensity for Crohn's in the first place in order to develop it. That's why the vast majority of the population don't get Crohn's despite drinking MAP-infected milk, a rubbish set of gut flora, or whatever triggers off Crohn's in susceptible people.
