The twist in the tale is that it's in the left eye this time. Truly, the excitement that is my life knows no bounds.
Anyway, so yeah. I got a call from the hospital yesterday, who asked if I could come in today. I walked there because I was told not to drive. It was that weird cold but muggy weather which I don't like: by the time I got to the hospital my forehead was dripping with sweat. Not nice.
The opthamologist looked at both eyes and confirmed uveitis in the left one. I had to have those drops which dilate your pupils - I think it's to check the back of your eyes, but the back was clear. The pain is all at the front of my eye, so I wasn't too surprised by that. Apparently my vision is crap, but I wasn't surprised by that either. I only had my eyes tested last year as well; in fact the optician even did a re-test but the results were the same.
Like the opthalmologist before her, this one put it down to Crohn's as well. She told me I shouldn't have re-used the same steroids drops I had last time. She said, quite rightly, that steroid drops can make certain eye conditions worse. I didn't really think of that because I was so sure it was uveitis again, but yeah, if it had been a bacterial infection steroids would have been a disaster.
I've been prescribed more steroid eye drops. I have a follow-up appointment in a week, so I didn't quibble with that. If my eyes really have become resistant to the steroid drops, a week will be long enough to find out. Also have to take those ghastly drops which dilate the pupils for a few days.
