I'm mostly venting but also thought someone here might have had something similar happen. about
two weeks ago I started experiencing what I first thought was heart burn and a feeling like my heart was racing. I started to take my blood pressure when these symptoms occurred and my blood pressure was about
20-30 points higher, both systolic and diastolic, than normal. I have also lost about
5 pounds in one week. I went to my PCM's walk in clinic yesterday and saw one of the other docs who has started me on a diuretic with a follow up with my doc next Friday. I do have a family history of heart disease and had preeclampsia with my daughter and postpartum eclampsia with my son, so I thought at some point I would face these problems but I'm 34 and eat well and exercise so I'm pretty frustrated that this is going on now. It seems like I have inherited every bad gene that runs in my family.
Figured I'd update since I ended up going to the ER when my blood pressure continued to rise and my chest pain worsened. I went to the ER on Saturday when my blood pressure was 178/125 and my chest was really bothering me, just a few weeks ago I had blood pressure under 120/80. Initially, I think that the doctors and nurses thought that I was anxious and my readings would go down, but they continued to stay high so they decided to admit me overnight to do a CT Scan to check for an aneurysm and do a stress test in the morning. Every doctor I saw was shocked that I was having these issues because I'm young and fit, but they kept saying that they didn't want me to be the exception and have a cardiac event. I'm glad to say that the CT was normal and the stress test was normal, apparently I rocked it. Now the confusion sets in and my PMC doc is going to have to start figuring out what caused this sudden BP increase because the doctors think it is caused from another medical condition.
