Has anyone used this? Side effects to look out for? Has it worked?

Went to a pain management doctor yesterday. It didn't go as bad as I thought, or as good as I wanted, somewhere in the middle. They didn't magically prescribe me my pain meds, but as a new patient, I get it. They gave me a very small amount, and half the mg I was taking, so practically nothing...but at the same time, at least it's a teeny tiny something.

She also suggested I try this. I'm already hesitant, because I hate adding yet another pill to the daily mix, but I try to be (somewhat) open-minded. When I do google searches I see it being used more for pain patients who have things like fibromyalgia and things like that.

Anyone have any success with it?

I am beginning to see a bit of trend lately with Gabapentin being rx'd for pain instead of pain medication. However, there are now headlines being made that it is being abused & so we will see how long it lasts. I have not seen very many good posts that Gabapentin worked for their pain.

Traditionally its been rx'd to treat nerve pain to treatment of neuropathic pain. My husband is diabetic & has neuropathy & has been on it a few years. He says he really cannot tell it helps all that much anymore. He drops nearly everything he picks up, feels like he is walking on broken glass. He has little feeling in his hands & feet. I have to watch that he always has shoes on because he has cut his foot before with blood running & had no clue. I am on a low dose because of a pinched nerve in my neck. I have burning pain in my shoulder & arm. Helps a little, however, I am not willing to up the dose for my own reasons, so I put up with it. Do I think it is going to be the wonder drug to treat pain, no, it will not replace a narcotic. These meds in this class has studies to prove that narcotics do not work for true nerve pain, hence Gabapentin & meds in that class for neuropthic pain.

Typical complaints for side effects are brain fog & drowsiness. I suggest going to Drugs.com & read up on it. Good luck & take care.

I have been on gabapentin for about a year now. I started on 300mg once a day and now i take it 3 times a day. My neurologist prescribed it to me because of nerve pain and inflammation. It has really helped. I no longer waking up in the night with the feeling of my arm getting chopped off. However it has not helped with numbness and tingly feeling in my hands. When i first started taking gabapentin i was drowsy and in a brain fog. Those symtoms have resolved now.
