How can I tell?

I am new to Crohns and I having a hard time understanding what is going on. What I really don't understand is how do I know I have a flare? How do I know when it's gone? GI put me on Mesalamine Tablets and I have no clue if it's working. I had chicken broth yesterday and have 5 BM from it. So therefore I am scared to eat and I have lost 30 lbs in 30 days. Any help would be great

Hi Tommy, the above poster is right, that type of weight loss is not good, call the dr today. How long ago were you diagnosed? You need to obtain a copy of your biopsy report from your drs office. All you have to do is call the drs office & tell them you would like to pick up a copy, you are entitled to a copy of your records.

Being new you need to learn & educate yourself about the disease. The better educated you are about crohns it will help you understand it more. You cannot rely on a dr to tell you everything either. A good website is CCF.org, reputable info there. You have to be careful reading on the web because there is a bunch of garbage out there that is simply not true. Come here & ask questions but again, educate yourself.

Thanks guys! I called him and told him it's not working and he gave me Uceris. I have been on for 3 days and I have noticed my number of BM's have decreased, however when I do have one its huge. I have another appt this Friday for a second opinion. You are all right, he was very non engaging and just seemed like he wanted to move on to the next patient. It's very sad.
