I am having abscessing, fistulizing Crohn's right now. 3 surgeries and it's under control enough where my docs are telling me I can go on a biologic. I know they like Remicade for what I have, but I'm wondering what peoples experiences have been. Honestly, I'm not trying to go in for an infusion every couple of weeks, but if that's what will keep me better, I will. I'd rather Humira, but I'd also rather do what works.

Thoughts are appreciated.

I would opt for Remicade as it healed a fistula for me. Many others here have had good results with it for fistulas. When I first started on Remicade I went every 6 weeks. We ended up later switching me to every 4 weeks as that was what worked for me.

Remicade has a better record for dealing with fistulas. Remicade also seems to have a better success rate than Humira as well overall. There are many who seem to do very well with Humira, but I would opt for Remicade first.

I would do Remicade. The standard starting dose is with a frequency of every 8 weeks.

i haven't been on remicade for many years (8 year humira user) but when i did it kept me symptom free for 8-12 months

humira has worked well for me as long as you are diligent and stick to the dosing whether it be bi weekly or weekly

Humira healed the fistula I had rather quickly. I didn't expect it to since most use remicade for that but it did and I have had no reoccurrence of it. Had to stop when some side effects kicked in but it was really great for the crohns. I'm now on remicade after flaring and was in bad shape but the remicade healed everything and there is no sign of disease so I would say from my perspective both drugs have the potential to do a lot of good.

My crohn’s is currently severe and exclusively perianal. One complex fistula, three draining setons and lots of fun. I have started Remicade a couple weeks back, together with Imuran, and it’s (on paper) the most effective treatment.

I was originally supposed to go on Humira due to my bad veins but this was re-evaluated and I had a portacath installed do I can have IV infusions of Remicade.

I have exactly what you have. A 270 degree fistula and 3 setons. Literally, and figuratively, they are a pain in the ass. I have no idea how technology has not moved from the place where they put thread in your butt and then knot it up to all hell. It's awful.

Have they removed the setons yet? My thought/hope was that if I got on Remicade, I will start to heal and they can take the setons out inside of the first month. Am I being overly optimistic?

Honestly, yep you probably are being a little overly optimistic. Look at it this way, it took awhile for all of this to develop & treating it will take time too. Is your dr going to add Imuran with the Remicade? My dr added it, he said it helped enhance the effectiveness & helped prevent antibodies. I know you are tired of dealing with this, but patience my friend.
