I posted earlier about lack of energy. Things have become worse. I'm a college teacher. Yesterday, I went to work and I had severe fatigue. I kept looking at my colleagues and was wondering how could they walk and be so energetic. I could hardly walk or stand. I even asked to go on a leave as I need to rest. I was informed I have to get a report from my doctor. In the afternoon I saw my GI. I kept complaining that I have zero energy and no stamina and I want a medical leave. He was totally against the idea. Then, he started to ask about my vitamin d level and he found it was 52. So, he revised my current meds and decided that Imuran causes profound fatigue and so does rifaximin . Now, I have to cease taking both Imuran and rifaximin for at least a month. He gave me a medical leave for 2 weeks. I read that this fatigue and muscular weakness should go away after weeks in patients who were newly introduced to azathioprine. I have been on it for 5 years now. I also read that when patients were rechallenged and were given the medicine again, fatigue returned. This means that I have to stop taking any thiopurines again.
