Dental Extraction, Dental Implant

I had 4 wisdom teeth extracted at the same time last year and one other tooth, no sedation just local anesthetic and was given antibiotics to take afterwards. I'm on 6mp and Remicade. I also had a root canal last year. I had to wait several years until for the crohns to be in remission because the dentists/oral surgeon would not do it while the crohns was active- too much risk for gum inflammation/improper healing and lead to more dental issues/tooth loss. I had absolutely no problems with the procedures done last year though I made sure that the doctors I was dealing with were well aware of my health issues and my oral surgeon knowledgeable enough about risks with crohns. It can't hurt to take some Vit D supplements too. I made sure my body was in not anemic and in decent health at the time of it. Good luck with it!

My hemoglobin and RBC are OK (not too good, but in normal range). 4 teeth at the same time. I admire you. Thank you, of course. Life is always full of challenges.

Thanks, I figured I might as well do it and get it over with at once. I was more afraid of my body's reaction to anesthesia and my lack of someone to drive me home afterwards than I was about dealing with the pain. I ended up driving to the beach afterwards. It was pretty painful the next day but overall I was lucky it wasn't too bad, I'm sure not everyone has that decent an experience.

I was more concerned about a dental infection that could spread to my heart. My cardiologist several years ago gave me a very sincere warning about making sure not to get them and after a family member nearly died from endocarditis (may or may not have been dental related) I didn't want to mess with the chances of getting one. I have never had C diff and it didn't scare me as much since there is a lot of success now a days with FMTs. I also know which antibiotics cause me problems. The antibiotics did not cause me any issues.

Yes, Susie. I went to CVS and got Maximum Strength Probiotic with 4 strains. Do you have to take the antibiotic for 7 straight days? I was thinking to cut it to 3 or 4 days max to minimize any chance of C Diff.

Thank you, Susie, for sharing your experience and advice. I hate uncontrolled watery diarrhea caused by C. difficile. I am taking one pill of probiotic every day and hopefully will avoid diarrhea. Thanks again.

Paul, was this probiotic prescription form from your dr? You may want to try to get a refill if this is the case. Otherwise, my gi always recommends Floraster which is available OTC. I have had c-diff in the past & was in the hospital for several things. Once the c-diff was dx'd they immediately started me on Floraster & when I was released I was still on a strong antibiotic & had to continue with it. Antibiotics not only kill off the bad bacteria but the good that we need too. Perhaps yours helped with the 2 issues.

Paul, my username is Straydog here at HW. I have never sent you or any other member a prescription medication of any kind. That is against the forum rules, lol. The only probiotic I have ever taken is available over the counter. Now if I read your post correctly, if a member mailed you something & said it was me, I can assure it did not come from me.
