I had an appointment with my CRS yesterday and the outcome was what I expected. Sometime in the next month I'll be having surgery to remove everything "south" of the stricture in my distal colon. Yippee?

We both agreed that this was a long time coming and that my ano-rectal region is just done. It will be a colostomy bc he wants to leave what little colon I will have left. He's planning on trying lapro and if that isn't possible then he will have to do an open incision.

I'm going to start doing as much research and reading as I can to get myself ready. Hopefully it will help take off the edge of this anxiety I've had since I left his office yesterday. I hate this DD.

Jesus I'm sorry. That just sucks. I'm almost afraid to ask what you've been experiencing down south as I've been having my own horrific issues down there lately. I'll keep you in my thoughts and hope for the best for you. I don't know if this is helpful, but I have a friend who had awful Crohn's and is now bagged and he says it dramatically changed his life - for the better! I hope that's the case for you.

Lamb, so sorry to read this, however, if this is what it takes to give you better quality of life it will be worth it. Please keep us posted. Take care.

Thanks for your support, it means alot. I don't think I've even had time to process it all yet with constant phone calls and had my pre-op testing done. Now I just have to see my pcp and get cleared for surgery.

Oh, I was able to schedule yesterday. It will be at 7:30 a.m April 4th. So I figure I should be out of there by the 11th. OMG, just realized that is my anniversary (11th) -- world's crappiest anniversary gift!!! ha ha Sorry, but at this point if I don't laugh I'll cry and there is no crying at work...

I do feel so bad for hubby. His mom just passed less than a month ago and he is handling the estate. And he's frazzled and lost and then this comes along. We're gonna need a vacation when this is done...

Steveo --- I've had chronic inflammation in the rectum for years and have built up scar tissue that has made it necessary to have frequent dilations just to function. Basically the sphincter is fried, I have another stricture and after 4 months I'm having trouble going again. Oh and the ano-rectal vaginal fistula is pure torture. It has never responded to drugs, presumably because it's so complex.

So it's time to the inevitable. I'm glad your friend is doing well. I just need to wrap my brain around the life changes this will bring.

Good luck lamb. Sounds like there isn't much else that can be done unfortunately.

Take it slow and steady, and give yourself plenty of time to recover.

Deffo a nice long holiday!
