Had a flex-sigmoidoscopy yesterday. I have 10 cm in my sigmoid colon that the GI could barely get the scope through. Bad stricture. He said he had to push really hard. I also have severe diverticulosis in that area. So, I am on antibiotics trying to reduce the inflammation if it's from an infection. {I don't think so.} If that doesn't work, then off to the surgeon.

I haven't been able to eat more than one or two small meals a day. Tired of not eating. Tired of the pain. Tired of only being able to pass stools that look like small worms.

Thanks for letting me feel sorry for myself.

Very sorry that you're having such a tough time. On the other hand, good that you know what you're up against. So many on here, as you know, can flounder without appropriate care or a diagnosis. Hopefully you get the diverticulosis under control, then see what the surgeon has to say. I wouldn't think that 10 cm is too significant, but I'm thinking more for the small intestine rather than colon.

I'm so sorry to hear of your current troubles. This is such an unpredictable and difficult disease. I hope you and your docs can come up with a good treatment plan soon!

That's why I have not had a colonoscopy for a long time, though my primary doctor mentioned it many times. I am worried that if the doctor pushes too hard, it is going pop it open to cause colon perforation.

I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe you'll get lucky and the it's mostly due to inflammation. But at least you are on top of it now and getting the care you need.

Hey Ides, I'm sorry about that. If the inflammation is caused by the Crohn's, steroids might help too. They did with me, but the stricture always came back and I ended up having surgery anyway. So, not a great long term solution really. I hope the surgeon can come up with a good plan. Best of luck.

Ides, sorry to hear what you have going on. Hopefully you can get this turned around quickly. Let's be honest, when things like this happen to us, we need to throw a little pity party once in awhile, lol.

That stinks. I am sorry you're being faced with these options and decisions. I hope things clear up and you start feeling 100% without needing surgery.

ides, remember when i had to have stretches every 2 weeks for a year or so? maybe you can do that. if its in your sigmoid, you should be able to do it without prep, just liquid the day before and then an enema right before the procedure. it helped keep me open but also the reduction of the Gattex to every other day. my GI did a paper and presentation on me and that problem down in LA at cedar sinai this past january. good luck. and tell the dr that he/she should never have pushed hard to get through, they should have gotten the childs scope that is less than pinky size. thats barbaric.
