So been on stelara for about 5 months. All seemed well. Now 8 bus with nothing but blood. What to do?

Give your GI a call and get some stool tests - could be c diff or something.

Yeah. Will be doing that. I am out of town (7 hours away). Called the dr. Go to er if it persists or i feel faint. Then call Monday for an appointment. Good thing bleeding seems to have gotten better, at least now more red wine color and clumps in the toilet, but the “D” is a bit strange. Almost like mud but it sinks and it still has a red tint to the brown. Sorry for th graphic discussion. I also was worrying about a fistula as well. I have never bleed except after a procedure like a scope. So i am worried

Honestly, I am suspecting something like salmonella or c. diff. or giardia as opposed to a fistula. I've never had a fistula or an abscess bleed that much on its own. It *could* be a fissure, but usually stool texture doesn't change with that unless it's also uncontrolled disease. My money's on the stool sample finding something or it's a flare (which would suck).

You know i finished an antibiotic about a week ago for s severe sinus/upper respitory infection. I have had c-diff one other time, but never with bloody diarrhea. I guess i need to go to ER..UGHHHHHHHHHH

The BMs are about 15 mins apart

Definitely need to get this checked out. C-Diff would be suspected, but could be viral or bacterial. Maybe schedule an MRE as well, just to check for anything Crohn's related. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Well went to er. Bm have not stopped. Hemoglobin dropped to 7.4. On third bad of blood have nazal gastro tube. No blood in stomach now preparing for colonoscopy

Aww shoot!!! I'm glad you are in the hospital, but so sorry you are going through this! I hope you get it sorted out fast and feel better. Keep us posted when you can.

You are in good company.... I had my hemoglobin go from 10.7 to 5.9 in two days (Friday morning to Saturday night), and almost ended up in ICU. Got two pints of blood transfused myself. Crummy way to spend Easter, but at least I am alive and have an ER that is finally taking me seriously!

Hemoglobin dropped to 7. I have received 5 units of blood. Holding steady at 7.4 for last 6 hours. Tried colonoscopy but couldn’t get through resection site. Might try again tomorrow. Did see one ulceration before they got struck. They think the bleeder is on other side which I want to know to help with treatment plan. Also did full upper scope. All was clear as well as the colon. Probably in icu until tomorrow after is remain stable then to regular room. Right now a fib kicked in and bp is sky high. Last night it was as low as 90-40. They put in a artery line which measures bp most accurately. Never had that

Good grief!! I am so sorry you are going thru this.

I hope they get the blood pressure and the afib under control!

Well hemoglobin dropped during the night to 6.8 so got another unit of blood. Back to 7.4. Not sure what next step will be.

Moved out of icu to a regular room. Hemoglobin holding steady at 7.8. Started me on clear liquids which i hate. No BM since right before colonoscopy. I haven’t passed any blood since scope either.

If you're on pain meds, that will slow things down as well. Sorry for what you're going through!

Last 3 checks of hemoglobin have been steady at 8, hemp riot is steady at 23. Still having an occasional A-Fib run. Plan is to monitor for rest of today and tonight, hopefully have a bowel movement and get released in the am.

Now, once i get home, i have a lot to think about. My wife already told my boss that i will need to take some time off fro work.

Your hemoglobin is steady, but it is still low at 8. It should be at least 13.5. I am at the minimal.

You said Hemocrit at 23. Is that 23%? It should be at least 41%. Mine is 40%. Have they found out the source of bleeding? Have they considered a CT Scan to locate the source? Is your blood pressure back to normal? You should be fully checked out by the hospital or have a follow-up with your regular GI afterwards.

I am in the middle of an upper respiratory infection and feel miserable. But compared with your situation, it sounds scary to me. Take care.

Yes,they are both low. Pretty sure the bleeding has stopped. We have a plan if bleeding starts again. They do not want to scope again as they might trigger another bleed by accident. I will be seeing my regular GI when i get home. He has been updated several times and even has called back with a few questions. I will be taking at least a month off from work to solve this.

If you're on pain meds, those will slow bm's down. I once had c. diff., flare, and pancreatitis at the same time and was in the hospital off and on for 3 weeks. I didn't once have a bm in that 3 weeks, but once the pain meds wore off I spent probably a full 30 minutes passing stuff non-stop on the toilet.

I sometimes think that we get so worn out from just fighting this disease that the tiredness just makes us more depressed.

I hope you are able to get the disability and that with rest you will feel better both physically and mentally.

I know it helped me...
