Biologics and UTI

I wanted to post in case this may help someone else out there. I had been on Remicade for 4 years for crohn's, all fine but then developed a UTI. Multiple rounds of antibiotics (many different ones, months on end) including a month long course of I.V. Ertpapenum could not resolve it, though symptoms were lessened. Drs were perplexed as to why this would not go away, switched from Remicade to Entyvio, no joy, I suspected the biologics but my gastro swore repeatedly it was not them. This was extremely painful and after so much time had badly affected both bladder and kidneys. Against drs advice I went off all biologics, stayed on antibiotics for 2 months and the UTI was resolved shortly after. It absolutely was the biologics, allowing the UTI to continue. I hope this can help someone else experiencing a problem like this.

I agree that it is not the biologics directly but probably their effect on my immune system that allowed the infection to continue and severely so. Yes, I am having more issues since off the biologics but the pain and the way my bladder and kidneys were affected (both damaged) left me with no option but to stop, it was 4 years of UTI/kidney infection hell, and getting differing opinions as to why it was continuing (my gastro swore to me that going off the biologics would not make a difference to the infection, he was wrong). I have severe crohn's for many years with 3 bowel resections, there are not many options for me but in speaking with my gastro I am going to be enrolled in a clinical trial for a fecal transplant soon, he said he also has another clinical trial I can try after that involving only intravenous nutrition for 3 weeks then a gradual introduction of certain foods. I just wanted others to be aware that on biologics with a lowered immune system a UTI sometimes cannot be resolved even with loads of antibiotics, but that it will resolve by stopping the biologic.
