I know it's been discussed on here before, but it's been a while. I have what I think is a skin tag - it's like hidden behind a hemorrhoid, but it juts out and feels firm and hard. Every once in a while it gets painful, I think from chafing or something (it's caught between the skin and a hemmie). But this morning I woke up with it really achy, and it seems to have gotten bigger overnight. It's pretty tender every time I sit down.
I've never had a skin tag before. I just wanted input/thoughts on here before I call my CR surgeon.

Hi...have multiple tags and they are actually the most annoying part of Crohns for me! What you describe does sound like a tag to me.
I have been told that they are the best indicator of a flare up---kind of an early warning system. Mine get more tender and inflammed right before I notice gut issues kicking up. They never go away when things settle down, but they definitely let me know when they get worse! I have also been told to NEVER have them removed surgically because it is likely I would not heal (I know there is a long time member here that had the surgery and regretted it). I also notice I get small fissures at their base easily.
I can recommend sitz bath for some relief. And I have a squirt bottle of saline that really helps cool them down. I also make sure things are dry down there because any moisture makes them worse. I use a pantiliner every day and change it often, blow dry the area using the cool setting after showers/baths, and I have wrapped them in non stick gauze on the worst days. When things are not burning as much, I use cheap witch hazel to make the area drier.
Take Care!

Thanks Habs, I appreciate it!! That's kind of what I was thinking. I think I've had it for a while but it's never bugged me till the last few days.

Have you tried applying tea tree oil to it? That may provide some relief and may even remove it.
Hope you're doing ok otherwise.

Thanks, I will give that a try.
I am doing okay - life has been really, really busy so I don't get on here as much as I used to. I am sorry to hear your RV fistula is acting up

Scifigal...I've had anal skin tags. And you're right they are very annoying. Mine became abscessed and a colorectal surgeon removed it. I've not had any more issues with another one. It did take a while to heal tho.
