Does anyone have gum inflammation from crohns?

I was diagnosed with crohns over 20 years ago. I am 68 years old. I have noticed some gum inflammation and discussed it on my past few dental visits. I get my cleaning and x-rays and everything looks clean and fine and healthy, but I do have a few questionable areas on my gums that are tender and inflamed. My hygienist says I am a mystery. I asked my dentist if this inflammation could be related to my crohns because after all, it is inflammation. I also have blepharitis in my eyes, and my eye dr. Says this is absolutely related. My dentist said he does not think so, but I have read a little bit about it online and inflammation can be anywhere, or it may be caused by my medication. I hesitate to go see a gum specialist And start racking up bills looking for other causes as I have no dental insurance. Has anyone out there dealt with this?

My gums tend to get swollen and even bleed a little when my Crohn's is acting up. My last 3 dentists have all completely agreed it is due to Crohn's. They gave me a prescription mouthwash and a few other things to help. It sounds like your dentist just isn't very well informed. Instead of worrying about a gum specialist, maybe just find a new dentist for your next cleaning. Do some phone calls in advance to ask find out which one is willing to work with that idea in mind.

I've used oil pulling with organic coconut oil every morning for 15min...has made a huge difference with oral health overall.
I just use a spoonful and then spit out, rinse and brush after...my dentist has been amazed at the difference.
Its cheap to buy a big tub of it and I use for cooking too...

Hi. I tend to see the gums inflame when I flare or min-flare like said above. Fortunately, or unfortunately, my dentist has a daughter who was diagnosed with CD after I started seeing my dentist. He is great at discussing the medical influences of dental care---I recommend you ask for a dentist familiar with how dental care impacts and is impacted by IBD or at least medical issues. My dentist and hygienist make sure I receive a soft toothbrush and usual give me a child size. The soft is more gentle. The child size helps because I tend to gag. I also use the floss on the stick thingies instead of string floss. Finally, I recommend using a gentle toothpaste (I have had good look with sensodyne). Anything to keep you taking care of the teeth so they don't gum inflame more.

I as well have had a lot of gum inflammation esp during a flare. Sometimes im not even able to wear my partial. Ive also had an absess in my tongue and tonsil stones. Inflammation of the thingy that hangs down in back of mouth/throat. All related to having crohns

Thank you for taking the time to reply, all of you. Puts my mind at ease some to know I am not the only one. I would not know how to find a crohns knowledgeable dentist, but I will make some phone calls. Even my regular g.p. Knows very little.

Yup, I used get mouth ulcers when my crohns was particularly bad. I found bonjela helped and once my crohns got under better control with humira, my mouth ulcers went away.
