Somatuline Depot Injections due to ileocecal valve removal

I had a cancerous endocrine tumor along with a few dozen lymph nodes, my appendix and my Ileocecal valve removed from my small intestine almost four years ago. I have tried everything and some things work better than others. I take Cholestrine packets every other day and try to watch what I eat.

All of my test have come back neg. and seems like they got all of the cancer. My question here has anyone's oncologist recommended getting a SOMATULINE DEPOT shot?

It is once a month and c0-pay is over $1000. My insurance will cover most but when I read about the side effects *(there are several)x

1. #1 side effect of Somatuline Depot injections is Diarrhea. This concerns me as I have had diarrhea since my surgery and the removal of the endocrine tumor along with my ileocecal valve.

2. It also states that this medicine is designed for endocrine tumors that cannot be removed. My tumor was completely removed along with a few dozen lymph nodes and my appendix. I just want to be certain that this is the injection that you discussed with me.

The side effects are numerous and if it is not going to treat my diarrhea I am hesitant to receive the injections.

I am hesitant to start the shots and wonder if anyone has had them?

I'm sorry you are going through this. I would think it over good, as you say it is a once a month injection so if you do have undesirable side effects, it's not like you can quit it immediately? Maybe do some reviews on it from other patients who have had it and make a decision from there. Wishing you luck and hopefully if you do take it, it will help you.
