Gatorade is useless for rehydration, which is why it's not used as an oral rehydration solution. It doesn't have nearly enough salt in it and it probably also has way too much sugar. You need to get the balance of salt and sugar just right. Potassium is often added as well, although that's not essential.
You can buy or make your own rehydration drinks: just google oral rehydration solution.
(Incidentally this reminds me of the time when I was in hospital with an ileus after surgery. I couldn't eat or drink anything for a week; the tiny bits I forced down with tremendous difficulty I vomited back up. I wasn't on a drip either. Still don't understand how I didn't end up with severe dehydration. However, I did have a very, very dry mouth.)
