Hi Samantha, from everything I am reading people with IBD should not go off of their medications during the Covid-19 situation. IF, a person was to contract it & not be on any medications to treat their disease, it would be like having a double whammy. The healthier the patient the better. If you are showing a lot of disease activity, if it were me, I would not go off of Entyvio. Entyvio is not a fast acting medication either.
Your dr is correct about Entyvio targeting the gut specifically. Keep in mind with any of these medications used there is always a potential for side effects. A lot of people can be on medications & not have any issues, when someone else may. His comment about infections could be based on what he is seeing with patients in his practice.
I can't really comment about the antibiotic situation, however, you said your problems started long before Entyvio. Are you building up a tolerance to ones you have always taken in the past, maybe, anything is possible. I am limited on antibiotics because of full blown allergic reactions. It is not uncommon for me to do 2 rounds of antibiotics either.
H, F & M is highly contagious. I remember a few years ago a member here caught it from her grandson. Hopefully you will get past the strep. It was going around really bad here about 2 months before the virus hit. My grandson is one of those kids that gets it once a year, some seem more prone to it than others.
One of the members in the UC forum tested positive for the virus & ended up in the hospital. He not only had the virus to deal with, but pneumonia too. He had some rough days, but responded very well to treatment & was released from the hospital I believe after 5 days. The pneumonia he said was the roughest one to deal with, they did 3 different antibiotics.
Myself, I would stay the course with the Entyvio. I would not risk going off of any medication at this point & end up needing hospital care with this virus going on. Stay safe & well.
