High ferritin and Crp. Low Wcc

Hi, I have been on Imuran for few months only and ferritin is over 300 and Crp 70 and wcc has dropped from highest level to 1 (blood test 2 days ago)

Does doctors take you off Imuran? I understand Imuran suppresses wcc but why is ferritin so high?

Sorry to hear you are so unwell. I really hope you are being put on a biologic or some other form of treatment, with CRP so high.

Yes, they should check your metabolite levels of imuran, and adjust your dose.

The question about ferritin is very important. In inflammatory conditions like Crohns, the body produces a hormone called hepcidin which causes iron to be stored, rather than available. It's thought to be a response by the body to stop invading bacteria from using iron to grow.
So people with Crohns can have very high ferritin levels (stored iron), and still be low in iron...

Your numbers indicate high levels of inflammation.

Hi Besth,
My ferritin levels are high, too. My GI told me it's normal with IBD.
As for stopping Imuran, I did it before for a year and I stopped again last February after Coronavirus outbreak. My GI said it's enough that I take Remicade and there is no need for another immunosuppressant.
