GI shocked me when he suggested inserting a naso- gastric tube for CT

Having been suffering for some months now. Saw my GI yesterday and discussed with him the impossibility of my swallowing mannitol for CT enterocolonography. I asked about MRE as you recommended and he said you have to drink something,.too. I explained to him I won't be able to drink mannitol so he said then you could have a nasal gastric tube inserted and you won't have to swallow mannitol. I was shocked and terrified and refused the idea altogether. So, he ordered a calprotectin in stool test and based on the results of which I might have a colonoscopy to investigate what's wrong with my colon and the cramps and diarrhea I developed lately.

Yes that's the issue, Ambling. He can't understand that I can't stand mannitol and I keep throwing up for days after ingesting it. I too had before a CT with only water and things went on well. Now, they insist that mannitol is important for colon loops distention. I'll wait for the calprotectin test results and if I'm not eligible to a colonoscopy, I think I'll have to bear up with pain rather than have an NG tube.

73monte, you're right but the problem is that the contrast irritates my stomach no matter I'm given a Zofran injection prior to drinking it or not. The sweet taste of mannitol makes me unable to swallow it and throw it up once I drink it.
