Question

Thickening of a wall is caused by inflammation & is not always crohns. I am curious what has happened with your medical care since 2019. I hope you will be seeing a gi on this pending appt. You really need to have some current diagnostics done to determine what is going on.

I am not trying to be vague but do let us know what the your dr has to say.

A little background . I've had stomach issues since I was born constantly getting enemas. As I got older it turned into severe diarrhea and uncontrollable vomiting with multiple admissions in the hospital due to dehydration around the age of 13 yrs old . Had a whole GI work up with nothing abnormal found diagnosed as a spastic stomach and put on protonix. Then around the age of 17 I was diagnosed with peptic ulcer disease . Then in 2016-2017 new years eve to be exact I ended up in the hospital vomiting blood and also bloody diarrhea got admitted for 2 weeks . They only did an endoscopy that showed i had a Mallory Weis tare and bleeding ulcers in my small bowel .They diagnosed me with colitis . Then I lost my insurance after this so I wasn't able to follow up until 2018 . In 2018 I had a endoscopy and colonoscopy that showed small intestinal mucosa with occasional intraepithilal lymphocytes and lamina propia mild chronic inflammation with no significant villous bunting serilogical testing suggested . I take Phenergan for my nausea issues and nexium . I break out in a rash every month, I also get painful canker sores . My vitamin D is always low even tho I take 50,000 once weekly . It was at 11 last yr ,they just did blood work which included the s ceravise and vit d . My vit d was at 21 last week . Hopefully this gives some insight.

I'd be suspicious of a doctor that says you have colitis in your small bowel. Ulcerative colitis is limited to the large intestine, all though some think it can effect the ileum in the small bowel. I'm not in that school of thought. And a diagnosis of Crohn's vs colitis isn't as important until you become surgical, then the distinction is very important.

What they should be looking for is if the inflammation in the small bowel is effecting all layer of tissue. Colitis only effect the inner most lining of large intestine (colon). Crohn's effects all three layers of mucosa and can be anywhere from mouth to anus.

Have you had a colonoscopy with biopsy? The capsule endoscopy is great to look at disease, location and damage, but can not be a lone diagnostic tool, it's should be used as a part of many.

It sounds more like Crohn's to me now. You really need to get a better and more proactive GI. Doesn't sound like you're getting the best medical care right now. If it does turn out to be Crohn's, then you've done pretty well without any meds.

Before considering a treatment plan though, you really need a certain diagnosis. You might want to take someone that can advocate for you and can be firm with your Doctors. Again, I would also strongly consider a new GI. Good luck and keep us posted.

Good that you're getting updated scopes, but make sure to specify that they need to take biopsies to confirm a diagnosis.
