My son and I went together to see a new dermatologist on Friday because his acne is still there. The dermatologist strong recommends oral Accutane, because she thinks Accutane has a 70% chance to cure my son's acne. She said the acne is leaving permanent scares on my son's face and thus stronger medicine is needed. My son really wants to take oral Accutane, as he thinks the topical cream is not doing that much to heal. I almost had a bad argument with my son in front of the doctor, which is embarrassing. The doctor said there is no link between Accutane and IBD, and Accutane might decrease the chance of IBD. But, I could not believe it. Here is the link:
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/pmc3073620/"Ulcerative colitis was strongly associated with prior isotretinoin exposure (OR 4.36, 95% CI 1.97, 9.66). However, there was no apparent association between isotretinoin and Crohn’s disease (OR 0.68, 95% CI 0.28, 1.68)."
What do you think? Thanks
