I have been doing fine lately and I even managed to re-introduce items of food I had stopped eating several years ago. However, five weeks ago, I ate fish that turned out to be spicy. It triggered a flare up: severe abdominal cramps, diarrhea, pain in both TI and rectum and fever. Saw my GI twice ever since and I’m not getting better. He first prescribed rifaximin (xifaxan), which for the first time, caused me severe rectal pain from which I kept crying for two days and the pain only ceased when I stopped the med. I saw him again and he decided I return to Imuran and up my budesonide dose as I was on only 1.5 mg and was about to stop it. Btw, I took my Remicade infusion 2 weeks ago and it doesn’t seem it works. Actually, nothing works. I have the classical symptoms of Crohn’s: urgency, pain in TI, nocturnal diarrhea that wakes me up and above all persistent proctitis. I can’t believe that spicy fish could trigger an uncontrollable flare up. I’m at my wit-ends and don’t know what to do.
