I seem to be dominating the board lately, (my Daughter again)

For those that follow regularly, My Daughter has been an ever growing concern of late. I've posted recently regarding her needing an iron infusion, kidney issues, possible Crohn's issues, needing a CT scan.

Well, this morning she woke up feeling lower right side pain, lower back pain, and a general not well that many with Crohn's will attest, worry that something is going on. She even became anxious that she might have another abscess. (had one about 13 years ago).

She opted to go to Emergency this morning. They were very good, was there pretty much all day. Ultrasound, X-ray, and even did a CT scan, since she was awaiting one anyway, the attending Physician got her in for one right away.

All the preliminary results seem to show that everything is normal. Even her swollen kidney is fine, with no signs of stones or issues. Her stricture seems fine for now, no obstructions. Pelvic exam is fine, ( she also had a ovarian cyst)

So for now her mind has eased. Anxiety might be the root cause for a lot of her issues, but then again, she will see her GI in a few weeks to follow up on the CT. Also checking for antibodies to Remicade, so will have that addressed as well.

I think that's about it for now. God it's so wonderful being a Parent sometimes(?)

I am sorry that you all are going thru this. It's so hard for the parents and the kids. (Even when they are adults they are still our kids.)

How was her blood work? Anything show up on that?

And just an FYI, for me, I can frequently feel when something is going wrong before it shows up in my blood work or the CT scan. It drives my doctor's crazy, cause when it finally does show itself I make sure I reiterate that "this" was the pain I came in for on this date. (I got tired of them looking at me like I was crazy.) My abscess...I knew weeeeeeks before it finally made that huge red bump on my butt.

Having a parent there, that believes in you, it means the world to you-especially with a disease that you can't see what's going on.

Hang in there! You all are in my thoughts and prayers!

Hopefully she will research and listen to her body..... And it will clear up on its own.

Much appreciate the support. Nothing showing on her bloodwork, and preliminary on the CT seems fine. She's still feeling lower right side discomfort. She has a appointment with her GI in mid December, so we'll see what she recommends. Waiting on an antibody test for Remicade as well.

I'm so glad that your daughter went to the hospital and had the tests done. Nice that they came back negative and it helped her anxiety some. Clo is correct in saying that the test may not show positive on the first test but may show positive on the second one. We'll just hope that is not the case with your daughter. After all, most of the time the tests are correct.

Out of curiosity which side did she have the cyst on? If you don't mind saying. That was a time for me when the tests were WRONG. I had a bad pain in my right side every day at 4:00 a.m., so bad that I went to the hospital...3 times! They did many tests, all negative and said it was probably this, that and the other thing. After staying a week each time(that's when they didn't chuck you out the same day). Then, I'd be back the next week sitting up in pain at 4:00 a.m. Finally, the nurse called a different doctor on call. He came in with a portable U/S, I think and found the cyst on the bottom of my ovary. That's why they missed it before. He called my Dr. and said," OR 15 minutes" for me. I didn't even care about having a 3rd bikini cut. I was just so happy that the pain was gone.

Hopefully, they will find whatever is causing her problem.

Hey msQ,

Also hoping the test are correct. As for the cyst, I'd have to ask her a little more about it. Being sort of a feminine issue, she might be uncomfortable talking to me about it, so I only have minimal info on that.

I understand that they can burst. Not sure if any of her pain is associated with it though. Hopeully find out more in mid-December.

I must have missed the cyst information the first time around.

I am in my 60s. In my 20s I had a cyst on my ovary and another smaller one right by my ovary on the tube. I started having intermittent pain and just not feeling well. I went to a "new" obgyn at 330 pm. This is probably TMI but feel it's critical to get this out there. During the "exam" he placed his fingers inside and outside around the ovary area and pressed on both sides. I immediately vomited and told him something happened. He diagnosed me with a yeast infection, gave me antibiotics and sent me to my apartment. Thankfully my friends came by at 1am in the morning to check on me. They discovered me in the living room - without any clothing - where I had lost control of everything. Vomit and poo all over me, unconscious, and unable to stay awake for any length of time. The hospital gave be 6 units of blood before they rushed me into surgery with a 50 percent chance of making it. Apparently, during the exam, the infected cyst popped and I almost bled out internally.

Cyst should be watched carefully. And your daughter should be careful when they do the exams. If she feels anything strange before, during or after an exam she should get it checked immediately. I am not trying to scare you--but if this had been shared with me I would have demanded an ultrasound before I left his office. (That's how sure I was that something happened during that exam).. but since I hadn't heard of this occurring I did not realize something like that was possible.

Please let us know how it goes. It helps to have others to talk to about these things.

You're hardly anywhere dominating. It's good to vent/ talk to or/and hear different issues/others results.

Like I hadn't been told back in my 20's that those cysts could burst or resolve on their own. No internet back then to look things up or anyone else that I knew with this issue. My hubby was the only one I felt close enough to, to talk to about it. Doc wasn't too informative. HA! My Dad would have been totally alarmed and knew nothing about it.

Sorry, I presumed that your daughter had her ovary removed plus her tube.

Wow is almost all I can say. I didn't know at all that ovarian cysts could be so serious or even deadly.

O/T: Our GP called my Daughter yesterday, and said that she was worried about her hemoglobin, as it has dropped again. Just had the CT, so it's not like she's bleeding internally, and the rest of her blood work is good. This really worried her though, as the Dr. made it sound like it could be serious.

My Daughter called her GI nurse, who reassured her, that testing for hemoglobin can be erratic. Going from lab to lab, different technicians, or could be normal for her. Seems historically it's been all over the place.

The GI nurse is concerned with active disease, as showing on the CT though. Once again, mid-December she sees her GI. Likely will do a scope, check the bloodwork for antibodies to Remicade. Just going to have to take a wait and see sort of attitude. Thanks once again to all for listening/(reading).
