Did you have kids AFTER knowing you had crohns?

My childhood vaccines were in the 60'sšŸ˜‹ as for the afflictions of younger people, I think some chemical exposure is concerning, and some is lack of parental disciplinešŸ˜

You know, I sometimes wonder about the whole vaccine/nutrition aspect of this disease.

My Dad said many years ago that we... As in the world, frequently look for the "easy" button, and just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. At that time we were discussing seeds/plants/farming and then ranching. We lived out on a farm and had restaurants, so we have always been very cognizant of nutrition and food sources. I can't help but think that in our search for the easy button we've played with our food source one time too many.

I have UC but this is definitely something that makes me sad all the time. I think I would have been a good mom but after 18 years with this horrific disease, I do not think I am physically or mentally capable to have a child. Half my life has been constant UC crap and hospital stays and infusions or med problems. I have been diagnosed with a plethora of other problems from UC. Idk if getting pregnant with low bone density is even safe (diagnosed with osteoporosis at 21). Could my back break giving birth? I think about all these things. No way could I care for a child while flaring. Not possible at all. I see kids running to the bus with their parents in the morning and I Iā€™d be crapping in diapers. My kid would have to go to the bus without me. Just stuff like that. It depresses the heck out of me since my partner wants a ton of kids but understands with me that it isnā€™t possible. So I feel like the decision was made for me. I know Rinvoq isnā€™t pregnancy safe so what would happen to a baby in my womb? If itā€™s born deformed or missing limbs, I feel like it would blame me growing up for its health problems. These are just all my thoughts since I am 34 and feel like all my friends have had kids already or getting ready to.

Joanna, I totally understand your feelings and thoughts on this subject! I was lucky enough to find a spouse who felt the same as me. I too sometimes see kids and think maybe I should have had one, but then reality comes back in my brainšŸ˜‹. No one knows your limits better than you!šŸ¤—

Btw I like bananas AND baconšŸ˜‚

Yours is certainly one of the more moving post that I've read in a while. There are many people in the world that opt for not having children. I does seem worse when the decision is made for us, but it's a bit of an urban myth that our lives are not fulfilled without children. You can have an extremely relevant, and rewarding life without ever having children.

Also, you're only 34 years old. You have so much living to do. It's so hard at your age to look ahead 10-20-30 years. Trust me you will have some wonderful experiences lying ahead. Wishing you well.

Randy, I am glad you found a partner accepting of you, too. Mine is awesome and he experienced our first flare together (well my flare). I didnā€™t know how he would handle it but he did everything I needed and spent all the hours in the stinky ER rooms with me.

73monte, thanks for the kind words. You made me tear up! I do feel like I still make a difference in the world just by being me. I honestly never knew if I wanted kids but it just seems hard when your body is the one fighting you on the decision. I am honestly just happy to be here. When I was deathly ill in my twenties, I always said my goal would be to make it to 30 years old. At the time, my parents were bathing me and lifting me out of the tub and brushing my hair and feeding me. I really couldnā€™t do anything because of how weak I became. My grandma even lent me her extra walker so I could practice walking again out of a wheelchair. It was really a lot of struggling to get to where I am today. I donā€™t take anything for granted so if I am meant to just be here and not make children, then that is okay, too. I just think my kids would have such huge hearts because I learned how to love so hard from my family. They have always been the ones to keep me going when I just wanted to go. I guess family is just so precious to me.

These posts tug at my heart... Strongly.... Crying in a pillow, in the middle of the night, type of tugs.... I applaud those that decide to have children, those that decide not to and those that are letting things ride for now or letting nature run it's course. Difficult decisions for sure.

Empathy..... Children that have chronically ill parents usually have an excess of it. These diseases strengthen not only us but each one of our family members that are touched by it and strive to understand it. Those family members that don't try to understand it are frequently just a-holes... And there's usually at least one in every family...you know the ones.. "Oh their exaggerating, lying, it's not that bad or they are just looking for sympathy .... šŸ¤¬šŸ¤¬. Then there are the ones that try to get you to do what they think is best for "the world"... Have kids, don't have kids... Do it now... Do it later...

Then there are those family members that hold you alittle closer, hug you a little bit tighter and encourage you to fight just a little harder.... And those my friends--are the keepers!

So stay true to yourself, do what's best for you, make your plans A, B and C...and then live your life, pray and enjoy yourself. You only get to do this once.
