Three weeks ago, I got a bad cold, fever, constant nausea and inflamed proctitis. At the beginning, my GI put me on daily ondansetron injections for a week but they didn’t do any tricks and nausea persisted. So, he changed ondansetron to granisetron daily injections for another week . Still, after 14 days of injections, nausea continued. Saw him last week, he explained that what I had got was coronavirus and not a cold and that it had affected my stomach negatively. He changed the granisetron injections to tablets twice per day. One of the side effects of anti-emetic injections and tablets is constipation. For 3 weeks, I have been taking these anti-emetic drugs and constipation persists.
Last week, I had one diarrheal bout and didn’t realize then that I was constipated and took Imodium, which added insult to injury.
I have been suffering since last Thursday while trying to have a bowel movement. I keep straining but only few stool comes out. Took different laxatives: agiolax sachets, glycerin suppositories and have been taking lubiprostone 24 mcg twice per day but I can’t have a proper bm. What comes out is (sorry for the graphic) small pieces or what is called hard marbles. Alongside the straining, I have got a severe anal fissure and both my rectum and anus are very sore.
I experienced fecal impaction before. Saw a CR surgeon then. I remember that he prescribed a compounded laxative for 2 days then and warned me that if I didn’t have a bm within these 2 days, I should contact him and he would deal with the impaction. But the laxative was effective and things went on well afterwards. Definitely, this impaction left me with a distended part in my colon which is obvious from my outer appearance and my GI found it during a colonoscopy and told me that he couldn’t return it to its normal shape as long as it got distended. In my MRIs, they always refer to it as secondary megacolon.
Should I see the CR surgeon or contact my GI or wait? Nausea is increasing though I’m taking the granisetron tablets twice per day.
