B12 shot question

Hi everyone,


I was wondering since my B12 bottle says it can be given SQ or IM I wonder which is the more common administration method? Which one works faster?

I think the IM works faster, but can't swear too it.

I'm pretty sure I know what IM means but not SQ, hehe, sorry...but mine get shot into my hip...basically the fat/muscle of my butt, haha....so thats where mine is and gets put into me, seems to be how they want mine done so it absorbs best and all.

SQ means subcutanious also abbreviated SC, sorry I work in the veterinary field and use medical terms often. SQ means under the skin (on the idea of allergy shots and TB tests). I have had My surgeon do them SQ on me since he is a colorectal surgeon he had never done one before mine last month. Go figure I can draw blood from cats and dogs place IVs in them but cant stick myself with a needle. I always have had it done in my arm

My husband gives me mine and he gives them to me in the upper arm. IM is how it is written. My sister is a nurse and she used to give my Mom her shots. When she gets back from vacation I'll ask her if it makes a difference. My doctor just upped my dose to once every 2 weeks and I'm thinking I may have to start doing them myself, so I may have to do the leg or butt cheek. Not sure what is IM or SQ though?

I prefer butt cheek for mine. had it in my arm once, killed me for a week, definately keeping it in my butt.....I don't mind it there, and it works really quick on me, feel the effects of it within a day or so, so its effective...reminds me now I need to go get mine for this month, HAHA....
I want to learn to do it myself, not sure if I could actually do it, as much as I can handle needles and they don't bug me, not sure if I could stab myself, haha.....though I have watched my dad do it lots to himself. Would definately beat the waits in the docs office.

Suzanne, did your level go down or not going up fast enough? My doctor just increased mine to every 10 days. My level was 138 went up to 400ish and only 208 now. My doc recently prescribed insulin needles and I always used to use longer needles to give IM (intramuscular). I always use my thighs. I'm wondering if the IM does work better.
