Painkillers cause bloating?

Has anyone ever had problems with painkillers causing bloating? I'm wondering if that could be contributing to my constant bloating as well Just a thought. I also wonder if my D turned into C because of the painkillers as well. Before I was put on them I had constant D and then it turned into C. Neither are a good thing but now i'm am planning on tapering off the painkillers and wonder if my D will come back? But it would be nice for the bloating to go away.

Something is causing my bloating, may be lortab. I can't remember if I was bloated before that when I started pred, entocort and aciphex in Jan. I only take one a day, rarely 2.

I went to my doctor and asked for pain medicine for my aches, he gave me some reluctantly and I had to promise to only take them when I really needed them. He said that it could cause C.... He gave me vicodin.... Hope this hleps.

Narcotic painkillers can slow the system enough to produce C that endangers a patient. Toxic megacolon, which can be fatal, is one possible result. That's why some physicians refuse to prescribe such drugs to CD patients.

More knowledgeable and empathetic physicians may instead co-prescribe a drug to counteract the C, such as Miralax. I'm not trying to scare anyone away from painkillers when needed. I take them myself, though not for CD-related pain. But, when taking them, it's really important to keep an eye on C.

I myself once almost had a serious problem. I was regular, but my system was not completely voiding. So, a backlog built up. Fortunately, I figured out what was happening before the situation got out of hand. An extra dose of Miralax did the trick.

My point is that bloating is a possible sign of being in such a precarious state. Please be sure that your bloating is merely routine rather than a sign of a backlog. The stakes are high.

For what it's worth that's exactly why my GI won't give pain killers (speaking of course of the opioid kinds) for Crohn's. She says it "wreaks havoc" on our Crohn's because it causes matter to just stick around, irritating us further. The way I experience bloating, it's often constipation backing me up all the way up my GI tract.
