So my new GI, other than wanting to go spelunking on his own up my rectal cave, seems to be on the ball. Since I am on Remicade, he believes that the research indicates no added benefit to being on 6mp and pentasa at the same time. He doesn't want to see any weird cancers (his own words). So no more 6mp and pentasa for me. Do have some bone loss from the 6mp and so boniva has been added. He is also the one that noticed the pulmanary nodule in the left lung.

Randy...sounds like doc is helping. Glad things are "looking up" even though he wants to do some looking up himself! read the word spelunking and made that same groan guys make in the theater when a character gets kicked in the groin. Thanks for the image....I think :-)

Hi everyone, I'm new here. CheerDad, can you please explain what your doctor meant when he said any weird cancers. Did he mean that he thinks that the combination of Pantasa and 6MP might cause this?

6MP contributes to bone loss? I hadn't hear or realized that. Prednisone and Entocort, yeah, but 6MP? I assume Imuran as well, huh? I shall have to go look that one up.

Meanwhile .... spel-lunking, huh?? I've tried to convince my gastro that mine is a one way cave but she ain't buying it. I"m due, but not feeling in the exploring/spelunking mood so staying away from her side of town.

My bad. When GI did scope today asked about the 6mp bone loss and he told me that it is due to the prednisone I get in my premeds for the Remicade.

The combo of 6mp (and imuran) and pentasa as far as I know has no known weird cancers associated with it. The more recent facts show that it is the combo of 6mp (or imuran) in conjunction with Remicade that has proven to show greater cancer risks.

Any doc who is conservative with the powerful prescription drugs is a good doc in my book.
