Whats good to mix phospho soda with? and scope questions

I mixed mine with white grape juice and it was awful. Hopefully someone will come by with tips for you. I did learn that keeping a hard candy in my cheek and sucking on it right after I swallowed the drink made the taste go away faster. Karen

I think I used Sprite the last time I did it. A lady on the celiac forum swears by ginger ale. It would supposedly have the side benefit of keeping nausea at bay.

Recently, I had an endoscope and flex sig done at the same time. I didn't remember a thing and felt fine afterward. I didn't even have any soreness when swallowing.

I agree with others in that you should mix it with something that you won't want to drink again for a long, long time...I did mine with Sierra Mist and it was tolerable. I don't think anything can really make it taste "good," but you can get it to where it's do-able. The Ginger Ale suggestion also seems like a good one. Also, I'd suggest just chugging it as quickly as possible...then it's over!

I really do prefer the phospho sodas over the other types of prep--I hope you have good luck with it and your procedure!!! I had the "semi-conscious sedation" (versed), and so even though I remember snippets of the procedure, I didn't feel anything and was fine afterwards. Pain free. :)

I suggest chugging the Phospho Soda and immediately chasing it with Gingerale. Like stated above the Gingerale not only washes the taste away but is good for nausea too.

Also, why 2? One is more than enough to clean you out. Of course, we are all different, but I rarely get dose number 2 down as I can't get it down and I am good and cleaned out with just the one half of one bottle.

I mixed my first bottle with Gatorade - bad idea...i wouldn't recommend it.  The second bottle I mixed with Sprite.  I'd suggest anything with fizz to it,  that seemed to help.  & like Nanners said, I didn't get thru both bottles.  And i've never had pain, just gasey cramps after.

p.s. I've done two other preps - one with Miralax and one with GoLytely (i think) and I found the phosposoda to be the easiest.

Actually I have to disagree with the above posters about mixing it with something you don't like...

it's actually a breeze if you follow these simple instructions...

mix only 1/3 of the bottle at a time into a full glass of CLEAR and cold pop of your choice (it must be clear rather then red, purple or brown pop as it may appear to look like blood in your intestines when actually its the dye from colored pop)...

so mix only 1/3 of the phospho at a time into a full clear and cold glass of pop with ice and drink it as fast as you can, doing this 3 times in total will get one full 45ml bottle of the phospho down....

so since you've been told to do 2 bottles, you'll need to drink a total of 6 full glasses...then follow with plenty of water and stay close to the toilet....

if you have mostly a liquid diet for a day or 2 BEFORE prepping this will cut way down on the cramping because there will be very little solid food being rushed out of you from the prep.


And yes, if you're completely knocked out you won't feel a thing or remember it either.

I had a a scope last year that I woke up during, I can remember being in pain and them telling me to breath. Then they knocked me back out. So it is possible to wake up and remember, as I don't believe they "fully" knock you out. Like they would if you were having surgery. The first scope I had I didn't remember a thing, and went well. But it can happen, and for my next scope I plan on talking to the doctor about it before hand. I don't ever want to wake up during it again.

As for the prep they always make me drink that half go-lytely stuff. Yuck, I have a hard time keeping it down and getting it all in. They need to seriously come up with a better way to test us. I completely dread doing any of it again, and will probably try to push it off a few more years if I'm doing well symptom wise.

I have tried all kinds of liquids with my prep - white grape peach juice, different sodas, etc. and the only thing that has worked for me has been broth as it masks the saltiness of the prep. The first time I did this was when I was having lots of trouble keeping the stuff down and kept vomiting it and it just wasn't working. My husband ended up mixing the rest of it in broth that he prepared for me and didn't tell me it until after I finished it. I just thought he was preparing me a meal since you can have clear broth as a meal. I had no problems getting it down that way and it worked like a charm for me. I did that in the future with preps and it has never failed me. As for the pain during the procedure the meds have always worked well for me and I only remember once saying something hurt and I barely remember it and had no pain when I woke up afterwards. I'm usually feeling pretty good for some time afterwards as the meds stay in your system for several hours.

pretty much can garentee that you will not want to be more then 20 feet from a bathroom tonight.

Wow thanks guys. Im sitting here at my computer with a bottle of gigner ale (chaser) and the cup of this stuff. Ill admit though even taking a sip of gignger ale then taking a sip of the stuff is still NASTY. Leaves a bad taste in your mouth. I better not start shooting poop everywhere I got big plans tonight. Im hoping to drink this take a poop and be DONE...keep ya posted

Bless his heart! That's optimism for ya. I'm guessing the big plans went out the window.
