My doc raised my dosage of 6mp from 50mg to 75mg two weeks ago. Since then I have felt nauseated, had extreme fatigue, loss of appetite, headaches, and abdominal pain. I've been running a low grade fever since the beginning of June (which coincidentally, is when I started taking it). I had the Prometheus TPMT test and everything was normal.

I'm just wondering, has anybody else felt this way while on 6mp? Do the side effects ever go away? When does it actually kick in and help reduce the D and the pain? Should I throw in the towel?

I hate this stuff!!! sad

The doc said if the increased dose didn't help me within a couple of weeks we would discuss Humira as a treatment. Yeah, like that doesn't scare me!!!

6mp typically takes a couple of months to reach maximum effectiveness, and sometimes can take up to 3-6 months to really help.  So you might have to wait a while longer to see if it helps.

The side effects you're experiencing may or may not go away.  You might be one of the people who just can't tolerate it.  That unfortunately happens to some people for unknown reasons.

Are you getting regular blood tests done?  Complete blood count, liver panel, and pancreatic enzymes?  Are those all coming back normal?

So far, all tests are normal.. however, I haven't had a blood test since the dose increase.

I called the doc's office this morning to inquire about the side effects and they said they'd call me back and never did.

Exactly the same for me.  I stuck with 6mp for 3 months to see if the side affects got any better, unfortunately they didn't.  I couldn't tolerate it so had to come off it.  Two days later all the horrible feelings had gone so if there were any doubts that confirmed to me that the 6mp was the cause.

Hope things work out for you, it's certainly not a good thing to go through on top of everything else.

Have you tried taking your 6mp at night? I was having terrible side effects from it and was taking it in the morning, switched to taking it at bedtime and I slept thru all the side effects. Just a thought!
