Ibuprofen irritation?

I recently read some posts here, that refered to ibuprofen, and the irritation that it could cause in the terminal illium. Some even implied that it could mimic Crohn's, and interfere with an accurate diagnosis. I'm sure it's just wishful thinking on my part, but my daughter has used quite abit of Advil in recent years because she's an athlete. Is there a possibility that she doesn't have Crohn's? Agreed. Any one with gut troubles should avoid ibuprofen, aspirin and naproxen (Aleve). Tylenol's the only thing I take and I try to use it very sparingly.

There's always a possibility the ibuprofen was a trigger. While you're having her avoid it, I'd also suggest looking into dietary modifications, too. If nothing else, try eliminating gluten and dairy. You may see a big improvement in symptoms.

NSAIDs, including ibuprofen, can cause small bowel irritation AND ulceration. I agree with the above post that biopsies usually can differentiate between the two. If there is a question that NSAID usuage caused the intestinal problem, then the patient might be told to refrain from all NSAIDs for 3-6 months and the colonoscopy is done again.
