God, this disease is making me develop a fined tuned "alarmist" attitude! However, I did my homework on this one and didn't like what I found. You make the call.
There are a host of migraine drugs,i.e.; Imitrex, Maxalt, etc. that do not mix with antidepressants such as Zoloft, Prozac, etc. Seems the mix falls into a catagory of "Class 2- Severe Interaction" definition.
Most migraine drugs carry heavy warnings for anyone with heart/BP related problems but the problem comes with the possiblity of mixing the antidepressant drugs and the risk of Serotonin Syndrome. Serotonin Syndrome may result in death as well. My pharmacist/boss was scared of the mix too. He is a migraine sufferer as well.
Some patients have experienced Serotonin Syndrome within 10 minutes to an hour of mixing the two types of drugs.
Please Google info on the Serotonin Syndrome if you take meds for migraines and antidepressants. Too much info to post.
My question came in with an Rx for Imitrex and Lexapro which I already take. For me, I'm not touching the Imitrex with a 10 ft. pole! I have several types of different migraines, some drug related some not. Today, I had a sinus migraine and took my percocet and slept it off for 4 hours.
